Scenic View and Sky View
Scenic View and Sky View were built in 1954 for the Santa Fe Railway, and were used on many fine trains including the San Francisco Chief, the El Capitan, the Chief, the Texas Chief and the Chicagoan/Kansas Cityan. Sold in 1971 to the Auto Train Corporation, they began a second life as part of a train that carried people and their automobiles from Viriginia to Florida. After Auto Train ceased operating, they were sold to private owners in 1981, and ended up in Alaska as part of a Holland America Steamship Lines land cruise program. They were purchased by Iowa Pacific in 2007, and have operated on Iowa Pacific’s excursion trains, and High Iron trips, since then.
The cars seat 66 upstairs in the dome, and feature a full kitchen and dining room seating 22 on the lower level. The cars are fully-qualified on Amtrak at 110 mph, and ride very well. These cars are in high demand for excursion trains across the country, and in 2011 they traveled to Washington, Oregon, California, Virginia, North Carolina, Georgia, New York, Texas and intermediate states. Many High Iron trips feature one of these cars. For charter information, please contact us.
